GRANDVIEW PLAZA, Kan. (WIBW) – A woman was taken to an area hospital after a rear-end crash that occurred Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 70 in Geary County as cars slowed for an emergency vehicle, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 4:36 p.m. Tuesday on westbound I-70 just west of J. Hill Road. The location was near the Grandview Plaza exit.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, traffic was slowing for an emergency vehicle on the right shoulder of I-70 when a 2014 Jeep Cherokee failed to stop in time and rear-ended a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse.

The patrol said both vehicles sustained “extremely minor damage” and were able to be removed from the scene.

The driver of the Traverse, 46-year-old Katrina Marie Schmahl of Junction City, was taken to Irwin Army Hospital for treatment of possible injuries, the patrol said. The patrol said Schmahl, who was traveling alone in his vehicle, was wearing his seat belt.

The Cherokee’s driver, Ada Irene Mobly, 86, of Junction City, was reportedly uninjured. The patrol said Mobly, who was alone in his vehicle, was wearing his seat belt.
