5 people, including 3 doctors, returning from a wedding were killed on the Lucknow-Agra highway

Investigators suspect that the driver fell asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to go over the lane divider and into the path of a truck coming from Rajasthan.

Five people, including three doctors, lost their lives in the tragic accident that took place on the Lucknow-Agra highway in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The victims were from the Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences in Saifai. The incident took place in Tirva town of Kannauj district, when the vehicle lost control, hit the barrier, crossed into the opposite lane and collided with an oncoming truck.

According to police, the paramedics were traveling in an SUV (sports utility vehicle) that was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed. Investigators suspect that the driver fell asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to go over the lane divider and into the path of a truck coming from Rajasthan. The impact dragged the SUV for a considerable distance, leaving little chance of survival.

Tirva’s environmental officer, Dr. Priyanka Bajpai confirmed that the victims had returned to Etawah after attending a wedding in Lucknow. “The families have been informed and the legal process continues,” he said.

The group, colleagues Dr. She had attended Chetan’s wedding in Lucknow and was returning home when the accident occurred.

Among those who lost their lives in the incident were three junior doctors, namely Dr Aniruddh Sharma (29), Dr Arun Kumar (32) and Dr Nardev (32). Also killed were laboratory technician Santosh Maurya, 30, and store manager Rakesh Singh, 36. Another junior doctor, Jaiveer Singh, was seriously injured and was transferred to a medical university for treatment.
