Alan Todd: Rapist jailed for preying on three girls in Edinburgh | UK News

A pedophile who targeted three young girls during a sexual abuse campaign that spanned almost two decades has been jailed for 10 years.

Alan Todd, 54, targeted young people at various addresses. Edinburgh Between 2001 and 2019.

The schoolgirls were between the ages of 7 and 13 when the abuse began.

The Crown Office and Prosecutor Fiscal Service (COPFS) said Todd attacked the first two victims as they slept in their beds.

The cleaner also wrote inappropriate letters and a card to one of the girls, confessing his love and stating that he wanted to marry her.

Todd then attacked the same boy by grabbing him by the throat.

The third victim, who was under the age of 13, was sexually assaulted and raped repeatedly over three years, COPFS said.

Todd was arrested and charged in May 2020.

Detective Constable Jill Urquhart branded the sex predator an “abusive individual”.

Police Scotland The officer added: “I admire the strength and resilience of the victims in this case and hope that his conviction provides them with some sense of closure.”

Todd was found guilty of five charges following a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh last month.

He was convicted of rape and sexual assault of a minor, as well as two counts of indecent behavior with girls between the ages of 12 and 16.

He was also found guilty of a single charge of assault, as well as obscene, indecent and lascivious practices and behavior.

Judge Lord Lake said of Todd’s repeated rape of a girl: “This was an appalling crime that showed no respect for your victim and was only interested in satisfying your sexual desires.”

The judge said Todd’s behavior caused his victims “long-lasting trauma that affected their lives in many ways”.

Lord Lake added: “Your solicitor has drawn attention to your employment history and limited criminal record.

“He also noted that you expressed disgust at the crimes for which you were convicted and that you considered them despicable.

“The nature of your crimes is such that only a prison sentence is appropriate.”

Todd was sentenced to a 13-year extended prison sentence when he returned to the dock Wednesday; The sentence was 10 years in prison and three years on license, along with reinstatement into society.

His name was added to the sex offenders register indefinitely and he was also banned from contacting his victims for 15 years.

Katrina Parkes, Scotland’s sexual crimes treasurer at the Supreme Court, said: “The trauma experienced by these victims was at the forefront of our minds during this investigation.

“Thanks to the courage of those affected by Todd’s crime, he has now been brought to justice.”
