Raghu Ram on quitting Roadies: We were told to shout at people, it wasn’t honest

TV star and actor Raghu Ram has become synonymous with reality TV show Roadies and his confrontational approach has become the show’s selling point. However, after six seasons, Raghu, along with his brother Rajiv Lakshman, left the MTV show due to the channel’s interference.

On Not triggered by AminJaz Raghu discussed his decision to quit Roadies. He said, “As you grow up you feel the pressure to eat. I felt that; that’s why I left Roadies. Rajiv and I left because there was too much interference. We were told to shout at people. Either that, or you have to dance to their tune. That’s good It’s a problem because you’re successful but you’re not you anymore.

Explaining how the show has evolved since its launch, Raghu said, “If you look at Roadies now, this is what they wanted to do. This is not what I wanted to do.” He added that viewers no longer connected with the once popular show because of its lack of integrity.

think about his journey, Raghu explained that much of his on-screen persona stems from his personal struggles. She shared, “I was going through a dead end period where that man (Raghu in Roadies) was an extreme expression of my anger and my relationship with society, with God, with the concept that I felt I was. I was lied to by society. So he came out and because I was honest, the connection He set it up… He didn’t show up because I thought it would work. You’re probably not contacting him (right now) because it’s dishonest.”

Raghu also sheds light on: the selection process followed while reviewing the show along with Rajiv and Rannvijay Singha. He explained: “I will meet you as you meet me. If you meet us sweetly, if someone is bullied, we will be sweet to them.” Recalling a memorable contestant, Raghu said, “There was a contestant who had a vada pavement stall, Raju Babu Chaudhary. He said to me, ‘Sir, please smile once’. We said, ‘I come from a poor family; if you scold me, I will get scared’ and hugged him.”

Sometimes, Raghu would deliberately make the selection process difficult for the contestants he liked. “If I liked someone, I would do it very intensely because everyone watching is also a jury member. It is at their discretion whether this person is selected or not. “If I liked someone, Rajiv and Rannvijay knew it and said, ‘Let’s go,'” she said.

“We had codes, we would write, ‘I like it, take it.’ Our need to cast a person is to see how he reacts, to bring out his reactions. He would either cry or fight or do something that would make the audience feel like they want to see the guy,” he shared. Raghu.

Earlier, in an interview with India Today Digital, Raghu had categorically stated that he will never return to Roadies. “No, it won’t happen. We’ve been asked, but no, I don’t want to. I haven’t seen the Roadies since I left. It’s not ‘that’ Roadies anymore,” he said.

Currently, MTV Roadies is hosted by Prince Narula, Rhea Chakraborty and Gautam Gulati.
