How Do Defense Organizations Maximize Operational Impact Using Decision Intelligence?

Guest blog by Alex Warmoth, Quantexa’s UK Director of Security and Defense #DefTechWeek

Data is fuel for defense organizations. But vast amounts of data can hinder critical analysis from progressing. Organizations are often overwhelmed by data from multiple complex domains and sources.

Disconnecting data sources creates a less effective environment for effective operations. Today’s threat landscape is diverse and complex; This means consolidating and contextualizing data is critical for precise and timely insights. Integration of structured and unstructured data and traditional and non-traditional sources is critical to identify emerging threats and risks, visualize relationships, detect hidden patterns, and uncover non-obvious connections.

Decision Intelligence, the latest step in the evolution of business intelligence, provides the integration and context needed. Decision Intelligence uses Artificial Intelligence to provide a single, unified analytical view to help analytical and operational processors make faster, more accurate decisions through human-machine empowerment.

How Does Decision Intelligence Detect and Neutralize Threats?

In today’s complex threat environment, effective security requires more than reactive measures; It requires a comprehensive approach to data-driven intelligence. By integrating data from a variety of sources, defense organizations can create a solid foundation that allows the rapid incorporation of any type of data, internal or external, structured or unstructured. Once the data is combined, powerful tools like Entity Resolution and graph analytics transform isolated information into a connected, dynamic view of entities and relationships, revealing key insights about networks, behaviors, and potential risks.

With this intelligence infrastructure, analysts gain the ability to create contextual insights and understand broader patterns surrounding key entities such as individuals, regions, assets, and events. This context-rich analysis empowers decision-making through explainable AI and advanced scoring models, enabling proactive threat assessment. Finally, actionable intelligence is prioritized to thwart imminent threats and enable rapid allocation of resources, whether through real-time ISTAR, targeted financial controls, or other tactical operational responses. This combined intelligence process provides a comprehensive strategy to address potential threats effectively and efficiently.

Get the data: Integrate data from sources at scale to create a reliable data foundation. With multi-source data ingestion, you can quickly incorporate any source into the system, whether internal, external, structured or unstructured.

Combine data and create context: With Entity Resolution, analysts can connect siled, disparate, and dispersed data at scale for a single, accurate view. Identities are resolved in integrated data. Graph analytics capabilities create dynamic networks and knowledge graphs that reveal vital information about the network of relationships and behaviors among people, assets, locations, and activities.

Create contextual analysis: Uncover entity, event, and graph-level insights for context-rich scoring models and explainable AI. For example, the decision intelligence process can identify subtle changes in data that may depict a potential material increase in risk within a region or network.

Prioritize actions: Risk scoring can then be used to prioritize actions that need to be taken, for example, distributing operational assets or freezing certain accounts.

This is just one of many scenarios where Decision Intelligence can provide greater impact. Like Gartner recently noted:“In times of increased complexity and uncertainty, decision-making as an organizational capability will become the key differentiator in competition. Those who can make better, faster decisions will win in the market.”
