Doctored obscene images used to blackmail Singapore public medical staff

SINGAPORE: Staff from public health institutions are receiving emails threatening to distribute obscene images of themselves.

In these images, victims’ faces are superimposed on photographs of people in intimate and dangerous situations.

In its statement on Thursday, November 28, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said that ransom was requested in e-mails sent from more than one e-mail address. The Ministry was warned about these e-mails on November 26.

Affected staff were advised to report to the police, MOH said, adding that no staff lost money due to the threats.

“The MoH and our health clusters adopt a zero-tolerance stance against all forms of staff harassment and abuse and strongly condemn this malicious act against our healthcare workers and their families,” the ministry said.

On November 27, police said they had received more than 20 reports of such cases from the public in late November.

Those who are subjected to such threats are advised to report this and hand over the e-mails to the police. – Straits Times/ANN
