2022 stabbing near Main Street in Hyannis led to conviction and prison sentence

Mashpee resident Kenneth Chisholm was found guilty of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on November 8 He’s connected to the stabbing, according to court records.

Judge Mark Gildea sentenced Chisholm to a minimum of four to five years in the Souza Baranowski Correctional Facility in Lancaster. He received credit for the 136 days he spent in custody.

Chisholm was 34 years old at the time of the incident on April 2, 2022.

Cape Cod brothers

Chisholm and his younger brother Denzel Chisholm pleaded guilty In 2010 for trafficking oxycodone and illegal possession of weapons and ammunition. They were each sentenced to five to seven years in state prison.

Main Street stabbings in 2022

The stabbing reportedly occurred shortly after 1 a.m. on April 2, 2022, at the intersection of Old Colony Road and Main Street in Hyannis.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a group of three men standing over a man lying on the ground suffering from stab wounds. Hyannis Fire and Rescue brought the victim, identified at the time as a 28-year-old Yarmouth man, to Cape Cod Hospital.

He was later brought by medical rescue helicopter to Boston Medical Center, where he underwent at least two surgeries, including one for a punctured lung, the Times previously reported.

When a Barnstable police detective testified at a 2022 dangerousness hearing, surveillance video showed the victim talking to Kenneth Chisholm outside Finn’s Tap House at 1:03 a.m., during which the bodyguard turned into a “push-push match.”

The victim appeared to be kicking Chisholm defensively in the midsection of Barnstable Det. Edward Cronin said in 2022, and then Chisholm pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed the victim in the chest.

The victim then ran south toward Main Street as Chisholm walked toward the North Street parking lot, according to Cronin.

“Our office recognizes that it can be challenging for the victim in an assault case to come forward and relive the incident through testimony,” the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s office said through a spokesperson. “We appreciate both the victim’s bravery in coming forward and the investigation conducted by the Barnstable Police Department.”

Kenneth Chisholm’s attorney, Ellen Garnett, could not immediately be reached for comment.

Chisholm was also notified that she had the right to appeal to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court within 10 days and to the Court of Appeals within 30 days.
