Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).


Following the state government’s failure to comply with earlier court directions, the bench took suo moto cognizance of the matter. The court had earlier directed the Lake Protection Committee to notify buffer zones for all water bodies within HMDA limits by July 24. Earlier, the HMDA Commissioner had informed the court that out of 3,532 lakes, only 230 had received final notification and 2,525 had received preliminary notification. notifications. It was promised that final notifications would be made within three months for the remaining lakes.

Despite this assurance, the court found that progress remained slow, with only 530 lakes given final notification and 2,846 lakes receiving preliminary notification. The bench condemned the State for lack of urgency and directed the government to submit a detailed status report on buffer zone notifications by December 30.
