San Francisco 49ers’ playoff hopes could be buried under snow and ice in Buffalo

The San Francisco 49ers, hit hard by injuries and losses, need a win in the worst way possible.

The 49ers (5-6) have lost two straight games and are in danger of falling out of the playoff race in the NFC West. They’re just one game behind first-place Seattle and Arizona, but they can’t afford any more losses. Unfortunately, they will face the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night.

The Bills (9-2) have won six straight games; The last one beat Kansas City 30-21, giving the two-time Super Bowl champion its first defeat of the season. Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen has been performing at an MVP level this season, and the Bills are certainly a strong contender to dethrone Kansas City as the AFC champions.

As if facing Allen and the Bills wasn’t worrying enough for the 49ers, they’ll have to deal with issues in Buffalo on Sunday night.

The current forecast calls for a winter storm watch in the area with high winds, up to six inches of snow and freezing temperatures starting at 5:20 PM PT kickoff at Highmark Stadium. Temperatures are expected to be below freezing and winds are expected to reach speeds of 20 mph, while the wind chill factor will drop temperatures even further.

Severe weather is normal in Western New York in late November.

Severe winter conditions in Buffalo forced the NFL to postpone last season’s wild-card playoff game between the Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers. This match was originally scheduled to be played on Sunday but was pushed back more than 24 hours to 4:30pm on Monday. The Bills’ regular season game against Cleveland has been moved to Detroit for the 2022 season.

There are no plans to postpone Sunday’s match.

If the game is played as planned, the Bills, coming off the bye week, are favored and looking to win their seventh straight game. They haven’t lost since their defeat to the Texans on Oct. 6. The 49ers hope quarterback Brock Purdy, who missed the team’s loss against the Green Bay Packers because of soreness in his right shoulder, will be ready to play.
