Estill Co. man arrested on charges related to child sexual abuse material

RAVENNA, Ky. (WYMT) – An Estill County man is facing charges stemming from an investigation where police discovered he was sharing images of child sexual abuse online.

Shawn Michael Turney, 31, was arrested by the KSP Electronic Crime Branch on Monday following an undercover investigation by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC).

An investigation led police to obtain a search warrant at a home in the Ravenna area. Police later found equipment used to facilitate the crime. The equipment was taken to KSP’s forensic laboratory for examination.

Turney was charged with one count of failure to comply with the sex offender registry, one count of tampering with physical evidence, one count of distributing matter depicting a minor engaged in a sexual performance, and one count of knowingly possessing a child sex toy.

The charges are Class D felonies punishable by one to five years in prison.

Turney was also charged with one count of distribution of a substance depicting a minor aged 12 or under in a sexual performance and 20 counts of possession of a substance depicting a minor aged 12 or under in a sexual performance.

These charges are Class C felonies punishable by five to ten years in prison.

Turney was taken to the Estill County Detention Center.
