Independent Senator Lidia Thorpe has claimed she was not briefed under Senate rules after she was suspended for throwing torn documents at One Nation leader Pauline Hanson and throwing the bird as she left the chamber.

Ms Thorpe’s suspension comes after independent senator Fatima Payman clashed with Ms Hanson on Wednesday over questions about her citizenship.

The fiery Senator remained unapologetic, saying on Thursday: “No one can tell me the rules here until I break the rules.”

“I think they’re making it up as they go along and that’s part of the problem,” he told the ABC.

The former Greens Senator has repeatedly challenged Ms Hanson, whom she accuses of using racist rhetoric to advance her political agenda.

“It is our responsibility to eradicate racism. Senator Hanson gets away with so much. He is a convicted racist,” he told the Today programme.

The federal court ruled this month that Ms Hanson racially slurred Greens Senator Mehreen Faruqi when she told her to “go back to Pakistan”.

Ms. Thorpe tore up the documents pertaining to Ms. Payman’s eligibility for the Senate and threw them at Ms. Hanson, who raised her middle finger and left the chamber.

He doubled down on his actions during an ABC interview on Thursday, saying, “I’ll do it all over again.”

“I’m not one to stay silent and let this happen. I would do it again. “I tore up the letters Hanson wrote to the Senate, calling for an investigation of the salaried officer,” he said.

“This (questioning Ms. Payman’s suitability) is an act of racism and we need to dismantle it as a nation or we will continue to be divided.”

Ms Hanson said she was “delighted” Ms Thorpe was removed after she showed “aggression” towards “many senators here”.

Although Ms. Thorpe has been suspended for now, her impassioned defense of her actions showed that she has no intention of backing down.

“This suspension actually allows me to hang out with people and go out on the lawn and protest,” he said amid rumors that he could storm the Senate despite the suspension.
