County employees accused of stealing gasoline from police station pump

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Two Hawaii County Public Works Department employees have been arrested and charged for allegedly stealing gasoline from a county facility.

Christin Eve Hoomaikainani Ho, 37, was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary. His bail was set at $2,000.

Chase K. Leopoldino, 39, was charged with third-degree burglary. His bail was set at $1,000.

Shortly after 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, police said Ho was seen operating a Hawaii County vehicle at the fuel pumps at the Hilo Police Station, where he filled gas into a private vehicle operated by Leopoldino.

The next day, shortly after 5 p.m., police said Ho was again observed operating a Hawaii County vehicle at the fuel pumps at the Hilo Police Station, this time with another man who police later determined was a family member. Police said Ho left the area and the man put fuel in another private vehicle.

Ho and Leopoldino were arrested while on duty on Monday and were released on bail that evening. They will appear in Hilo District Court on Christmas Eve, December 24, at 1:30 p.m.

Investigations are being conducted by police and the Hawaii County Department of Public Works.
