Driver dies after crashing into metal pipe in Iloilo

A motorcycle rider was killed in Tigbauan, Iloilo, when he was struck by a metal pipe mounted on a kolong-kolong (motorcycle with a sidecar) crossing the road.

According to Aileen Pedreso’s Saksi report on Thursday, CCTV footage shows the kolong-kolong crossing the road with a pipe as the motorcycle suddenly sped by.

The driver hit the pipe, causing him to fall to the pavement.

The motorcycle’s momentum caused it to crash into a pickup truck.

The injured person was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

“Ang motor and dina-drive ng biktima, big nagging-overtaking jeep. “Blind side sila, so timing na ang mahabang dulo ng pipe, inabot niya,” said Police Capt. Alfred Mansoy, Tigbauan police chief.

(The motorcycle the victim was driving suddenly overtook a jeep. Since the driver was blind, he crashed into the long end of the pipe.)

The victim’s family and the kolong-kolong riders have yet to comment on the incident.
