Former landlord of Artichoke pub in Norwich jailed for rape

The former landlord of a city bar has been jailed for rape.

Kevin Tweedy, who runs the Artichoke pub on Magdalen Road in Norwich, attacked a woman in 2015.

A. four day trial In August, it was determined that he had sexually assaulted the same victim in 2013.

The 66-year-old man, of High Street, Loddon, Norfolk, was sentenced to 32 months in prison, of which 16 months will be served on licence.

Recorder Rouse KC, who presided over the hearing at King’s Lynn Crown Court, described Tweedy’s attack as “deliberate” and “forceful”.

“You were persistent in pursuing him,” he said.

“The impact on him was profound.

“Anyone who wants to blame (the victim) for any of this should hang their head in shame.”

Tweedy was also granted a restraining order against the victim.

The artichoke’s new owner, Lisa Davis, a Huddersfield solicitor, said staff, management and local people were “deeply shocked” by Tweedy’s conviction.

“Friends from Norwich often told me that Artichoke was a lively, friendly pub with a strong staff team,” he said.

“I am proud of their enthusiasm and determination to make this historic site a success for years to come.”
