Arizona man faces 45 charges

PHOENIX — An Arizona man accused of dozens of child sexual abuse crimes faces the possibility of a long time behind bars, authorities said.

David Berry Garmarnik, 46, of Tucson, is accused of using Skype to livestream child sex abuse programs in the Philippines. accordingly U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.

Prosecutors said Garmarnik allegedly transferred money to sex traffickers who would run the shows with him. He is accused of participating in dozens of demonstrations since 2017.

Garmarnik was indicted last week on a total of 45 charges: 20 counts of attempted production of child pornography, 20 counts of attempted seduction and coercion of a minor, and five counts of attempted receipt of child pornography.

How much prison time does a child sexual abuse suspect face?

According to the sentencing terms of the crimes he is accused of, Garmarnik could spend the rest of his life behind bars if found guilty.

Any attempt to produce child pornography carries a prison sentence of 15 to 30 years.

The penalty for encouraging and attempting to coerce a minor conviction is 10 years to life imprisonment.

The sentencing range for receiving child pornography is five to 20 years per count.

In addition, each of the crimes carries a fine of up to $250,000 and a term of probation ranging from five years to life.

The investigation into Garmarnik was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations as part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative to combat child sexual abuse.
