The compact two-door Sports Coupe is a more advanced version of the standard BMW 2 series. It features sportier design elements and eliminates most of the chrome found on the standard 2-series Gran Coupe.

BMW M2: Engine and performance

Under the hood of the new M2 is a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder, inline petrol engine that produces 473 hp with a maximum torque of 550 Nm with a manual transmission or 600 Nm with an automatic transmission. It completes the 0-100 acceleration in 4 seconds with the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and in 4.2 seconds with the six-speed manual transmission. The torque curve is optimized for linear power delivery; maximum torque is available from 2,650 to 6,130 rpm, while peak power is reached at 6,250 rpm. Redline is set at 7,200 rpm.

The standard eight-speed automatic transmission has three modes (Efficient, Sport, Sport Plus). An optional six-speed manual with optimized gear ratios is also available. With the help of ‘Gear Shift Assist’, the manual M2 allows slip-free operation during downshifts. The car’s top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h, and with the M Driver’s Package this speed can be increased to 285 km/h.

BMW M2: Design

On the outside, BMW ditched the chrome grille and replaced it with a frameless grille with horizontal bars. Blacked-out exhaust pipes come as standard, while the BMW M2 logo at the front and rear is now available in black with a silver frame. The bold and muscular M-specific look is achieved by wide wheel arches and wide side skirts. There is also a diffuser at the rear of the car to improve the aerodynamics of the car. The BMW M2 features adaptive LED headlights and the optional M Carbon Roof is also available, which reduces the car’s center of gravity.

Inside the cabin, the sports coupe features a flat-bottomed M leather steering wheel with red center markers at the 12 o’clock position. The instrument cluster features the BMW Curved Display with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch central display. There is 390 liters of space in the trunk and the rear seats can be folded in a 40:20:40 ratio. Among other options for the vehicle, optional carbon seats with illuminated logos on the headrests are also available.

BMW M2: Features

The BMW M2 uses Adaptive M suspension to provide electronically controlled damping compensation performance and ride comfort. The M Sport differential increases traction, especially when cornering or where grip is poor. The staggered wheel setup includes 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels. Braking duties are handled by M high-performance compound brakes with calipers painted in blue or optional red.

BMW gave the vehicle a lightweight design, Brake Energy Regeneration, Auto Start-Stop function, electric power steering, differential and transfer case with optimized warm-up behavior and aerodynamics to increase fuel efficiency.
