Riot hotel in Rotherham will no longer house asylum seekers

On August 4, a mob surrounded the hotel, setting fire to trash cans and throwing debris at police officers.

As well as police officers being attacked, police horses and dogs were also injured and courts heard how asylum seekers feared for their lives.

Defense Minister John Healey, MP for Rawmarsh and Conisbrough, had opposed the use of the hotel since asylum seekers were first moved there in 2022.

“I recognize this is a difficult time for local people and I hope this latest announcement will remove some uncertainty about the future,” he said.
