Wicked defied gravity in all of our hearts this week with amazing performances from Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. Running a whopping two hours and 41 minutes, the film includes a million musical numbers, outfit changes and character arcs. But it’s still only part one of the iconic musical adaptation. So why was Wicked split into two parts? The answer actually consists of two parts. There are two iconic reasons why Wicked couldn’t be one movie, and the second has everything to do with Cynthia Erivo.

Wicked director Jon Chu explained the main reason why Wicked will be a two-parter in 2022 on Twitter.

He explained the full premise behind the decision: “Here’s what happened: As we prepared this production over the past year, it became increasingly clear that it was impossible to fit the story of Wicked into a single film without doing serious damage to it. . “When we tried to cut songs or cut characters, those decisions began to feel like fatal concessions to the source material that had entertained us all for years.”

He added, “So we decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and make not just one Wicked movie, but TWO!!!! With more room we can tell the Wicked story the way it was meant to be told, while also adding more depth and depth to the journeys of these beloved characters.” “We can bring a surprise.”

The second reason for Wicked to be split into two parts came from composer Stephen Schwartz. explained The Gravity Defiler was no match. I completely understand this.
