Teenager convicted of murdering 17-year-old teenager in Hackney

A Hackney teenager has been found guilty of murdering 17-year-old Nathan Bawuah.

The 17-year-old man, who cannot be named due to his age, was found guilty of manslaughter at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, November 29.

He had already pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon.

Nathan was fatally stabbed on Hackney Road, E2, just before 11pm on Saturday 17 February.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service rushed to his aid but, despite their best efforts, he sadly died at the scene. His family were later supported by specialist police.

Detectives launched an investigation, which included forensic examination and analysis of all available CCTV. The latter proved significant when detectives identified a 17-year-old male who rode to the scene on his bicycle, confronted the victim, produced a large machete and stabbed him in the chest.

The young man answered ‘no comment’ to all the police’s questions, but gave a prepared statement claiming self-defense. He was charged with killing Nathan on February 21.

He will be sentenced at Inner London Crown Court on January 24, 2025, following his conviction for manslaughter and possession of a machete.
