Two cars caught fire after colliding on Dwarka Highway, one died

A person was burnt to death when the car caught fire following a collision with an SUV on a flyover in Dwarka Sector 21 in the early hours of Wednesday, police said.

They added that the SUV also caught fire, but its occupants managed to escape in time.

A Delhi Fire Services official said that the call regarding the fire was received at 12:20 am and two fire trucks were sent to the scene.

“When firefighters arrived, both vehicles were completely engulfed in flames,” the official said.

A police officer said that after Sector 23 Dwarka police station received information about the accident, a team reached the Yashobhoomi flyover at 12.15 pm and found that Maruti Suzuki Eeco and Hyundai Creta had crashed.

“A head-on collision between two vehicles is suspected,” the police officer said.

“The occupants of the Creta managed to get out in time, but the person inside the Eeco was trapped. The police officer stated that the charred body was removed from the vehicle after the fire was extinguished.

While police teams came to the scene and investigated, the body was taken to Safdarjung Hospital morgue. Police stated that the identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed.

“An FIR has been registered under Sections 281 and 106A of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and efforts are on to identify the victim. Police officials stated that the investigation into the incident continues.
