Before John Setka filed his post-traumatic stress disorder claim against the CFMEU, organizer Ronnie Buckley had attempted to sue the union after being badly beaten at work.

The CFMEU executive is fighting an estimated $5 million lawsuit filed by an organizer who claimed he was beaten at a construction site while performing a safety inspection, leaving him with only one functioning eye and unable to work for the rest of his life.

The lawsuit said John Setka, who at the time ran the CFMEU branch of which the organizer was a member, filed a workers’ compensation claim against the union for post-traumatic stress disorder, which he said he developed while he was branch secretary.
