Hollywood continues to release raunchy movies and shows, but Gen Z is demanding less on-screen sex.

A new study conducted by the University of California, Los Angeles Center for Scholars and Storytellers surveyed nearly 1,500 people ages 10 to 24 and found that the vast majority of teens don’t want to see sex in movies and TV shows.

“63.5% of teens said they preferred big and small screen stories to focus on friendships, while 62.4% said sexual content was not needed as a plot device,” Variety reported. reported. “These are big jumps from the previous year, when 51.5% of survey respondents said they wanted more content about people in platonic relationships and 47.5% said they were not looking for TV shows or movies where sex is the main plot.”

The publication noted that participants ages 10-13 were not asked about their feelings regarding sexually explicit content.

“Our findings really seem to solidify a trend we found emerging in our data last year: Teens are tired of seeing the same old and irrelevant romantic tropes on screen,” said Alisha J. So what does Generation Z want to see on the screen?
