Apple is introducing Apple Intelligence, which offers new writing tools, improved Siri, improved Photos search, and more on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, with additional features launching later this year.

Apple has officially launched the first Apple Intelligence features on iPhone, iPad and Mac devices with the release of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1. This initial rollout, now available in US English, introduces system-wide writing tools, improved Siri with speech improvements, and updates to the Photos app, among other features aimed at elevating the user experience of the Apple ecosystem.

“Apple Intelligence ushers in a new era for iPhone, iPad and Mac by delivering all-new experiences and tools that will transform what our users can achieve,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook. These advancements are designed to improve day-to-day user interactions, from helping draft polished text to more intuitive and improved photo and video search features.

Availability and Language Support Expansion

Apple Intelligence, which initially launched in English (US), will begin expanding to additional languages ​​in December, including localized English versions for Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. Apple plans to continue expanding language availability over the next year, with updates that will introduce English (India), Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Spanish and more, starting in April.

Apple’s intelligence-based authoring tools are fully integrated with iOS, iPadOS and macOS. They offer support for rewriting, correcting, and summarizing text in Apple’s native apps like Mail, Messages, Notes, and Pages, as well as third-party apps that choose to support these features. These tools offer advanced productive capabilities to help users communicate effectively, whether drafting emails or refining notes.

Advanced Siri with Natural Conversation Capabilities

Siri gets a major upgrade Apple Intelligence that now offers more natural conversational capabilities and deeper integration into system-wide functions. Siri on iPhone now includes an interactive light that shines at the edge of the screen, and on Mac users can place Siri anywhere on the desktop for easy access. Additionally, Siri’s knowledge base now includes more Apple-specific queries, such as device settings and app functions, and users have the flexibility to communicate with Siri via both text and voice.

Advanced Photos App Features

The Photos app now includes natural language search, allowing users to find images and videos simply by describing what they’re looking for. A new “Cleanup” tool has been introduced, allowing users to remove unwanted objects from photos. The updated “Memories” feature can even create videos using written descriptions, drawing from both images and video clips in the user’s library.

Productivity Boost in Email, Notifications, and Focus Mode

The Mail app now has a Priority Messages section that highlights urgent emails, while Notification Summaries give users a brief view of stacked notifications. The new Focus mode further refines notifications by only showing those that require immediate attention. In the Notes and Phone apps, users can record, transcribe, and summarize audio; This is especially useful for productivity-focused users.

Apple Intelligence Features Coming in 2024

Apple confirms additional features are on the way, including an Image Playground app for system-wide rendering ChatGPT integration and advanced authoring tools for more interactive and responsive help. These upcoming features are scheduled to be released in December, with more coming in the coming months.
