A second crash occurred while emergency crews were investigating a crash on I-93 in Wilmington

WILMINGTON – While emergency crews were responding to a crash on Interstate 93 early Sunday morning, a second crash occurred at the scene when a vehicle crashed into a fire truck.

Following the incident, State Police said four people were transported to local hospitals.

The first two-vehicle crash was reported on I-93 North at Route 125 around 4:25 a.m. According to police, one person involved in the crash was unresponsive and received CPR from first responders before being transported to a local hospital.

During the ensuing crash investigation, another vehicle struck the Wilmington fire truck at the scene, resulting in three additional occupants being taken to local hospitals. No firefighters were injured in the accident.

The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit, the Wilmington Police Department and the state Department of Transportation were on scene to assist with the investigation.
