The entire island is in danger of extinction

Taiwanese officials have warned residents to prepare for the effects of Super Typhoon Kong-rey as the intensifying storm approaches the island.

Accordingly CNN, After causing damage in the Philippines, Typhoon Kong-rey is moving northwestward over the Philippine Sea and is expected to reach Taitung on Taiwan’s mountainous southeastern coast early on Thursday, October 31, 2024.

Key-rey reached super typhoon strength on Wednesday with winds of 240 kilometers per hour (150 miles per hour), equivalent to a Category 4 Atlantic hurricane, according to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC).

Meteorologist Chu Mei-lin said at a press conference with the island’s weather agency on October 30, 2024: “As the typhoon continues to move northwestward, almost all of Taiwan will be covered by the storm ring later tonight.”

The Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued a marine advisory on Tuesday and an evacuation warning for more than half of the counties expected to be hit by the storm on Wednesday.

Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te urged residents to stay away from beaches and mountains in a post on his Facebook page. He wrote: “I call on my friends in the eastern, southern and northern parts of the country to remain vigilant.”

The island administration warned that heavy rainfall was expected in the north around the capital Taipei throughout Thursday.
