Random machete attack sends Winnipeg man to hospital: police – Winnipeg

Winnipeg police say they are investigating a random machete attack that occurred in the early morning hours.

Police officers were called to the scene at around 4am on Tuesday morning, where they found a 44-year-old man being treated by paramedics for serious injuries. He was taken to hospital in unstable condition, but was later upgraded to stable condition.

The victim told police he had been in St. Petersburg a half hour earlier. He said he was in a park near St. John Avenue when he was suddenly attacked from behind. He managed to walk to Main Street before collapsing.

Police said that there was no known connection between the victim and the suspect or suspects, and that the victim could not describe the attacker because the attack occurred suddenly and from behind.
