Former Kimilili MP Suleiman Kasuti Murunga has passed away.

Murunga died on Wednesday after a short illness.

He served as Kimilili Member of Parliament between 2013 and 2017.

His death was confirmed by Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, who expressed his condolences to his family and friends.

He described Murunga as a true gentleman whose absence will be greatly felt.

“My sincere and sincere condolences to the esteemed family and friends. Suleiman Murunga, former MP for Kimilili and former owner of Simmers. To my friend Kizito Temba and the entire Baliuli clan, I am so sorry for the loss of your uncle. My dear. Murunga was a true gentleman and his absence May you find solace in precious memories that will be deeply felt,” Barasa said in X.

Other leaders, including former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, also mourned his death.

“Rest in peace my beautiful. Former Mp Kimilili and former owner of the popular Club Simmers, Suleiman Murunga,” he said.

Bungoma Women Representative Catherine Wambilianga described Murunga as a visionary leader.

“I was deeply saddened to learn of the death of Hon. Former Kimilili MP Suleiman Murunga,” he said.

β€œHe was a visionary and passionate politician. His contributions to Kimilili Constituency and its people will always be remembered by all.”

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula mourned Murunga as a dedicated leader.

“It is with deep sorrow and sadness that I offer my condolences on the passing of former MP from Kimili, Mr. Suleiman Murunga. His tenure from 2013 to 2017 was marked by his dedication and unwavering commitment to the people he served,” he said.

“As a member of Ford Kenya, he not only represented his constituents with integrity, but also played a key role as the party’s Electoral Director and contributed significantly to our nation’s political landscape. Murunga was an advocate for the needs of his community, tirelessly advocating for development and social justice.”

Wetang’ula said Murunga’s legacy will be remembered by the many whose lives he touched through his service and leadership.

“In this time of sorrow, let us honor his memory by continuing the work he was passionate about, advancing the interests of our people and strengthening our democracy,” he said.

“My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace Mr. Suleiman Murunga. You will be missed.”
