The next hearing date in the Peters murder case is set for December 16

CHIPPEWA FALLS — The teenager accused of killing 10-year-old Lily Peters in April 2022 will return to Chippewa County Court on Dec. 16.

Judge Steve Gibbs held a hearing where the teenager, identified as CP-B, was to enter his plea. More court dates will likely be set.

The teen’s attorney, Michael Cohen, asked the state Court of Appeals to review the case; This court agreed that the case could proceed by charging the teenager as an adult. Cohen did not appeal the case to the state Supreme Court, so the matter returned to Chippewa County.

CP-B., who will turn 17 in March, is charged with first-degree premeditated murder and two counts of sexual assault. CP-B. He is accused of killing Lily Peters in Chippewa Falls in April 2022.

The case progressed slowly due to Cohen seeking a reverse waiver to send the matter to juvenile litigation. But the Court of Appeal ultimately agreed with Gibbs that a sentence that allowed the teenager to become emancipated at age 25 and required him to register as a sex offender reduced the seriousness of the crime.
