CAL FIRE burn permits will be required until cooler temperatures, higher humidity, and wintry conditions reduce the danger of wildfire. Property owners and residents are asked to use caution during debris or agricultural burns, follow all guidelines provided, and keep the fire under control at all times. Individuals can be held civilly and/or criminally liable for allowing a fire to get out of their control and/or burn into neighboring property.

Heap Burning Requirements

• Only dry, natural plant materials such as leaves, pine needles and wood debris can be burned.
• Burning of garbage, painted wood or other debris is not permitted.
• Do not light it on windy days.
• The diameter and height of the piles should not be greater than four feet. As it burns, you can add it to the pile.
• Clear a 10-foot diameter diameter to bare soil around your piles.
• Keep a shovel and water source nearby.
• An adult must always be present when responding to a fire.

The safe burning of forest residues in residences by landowners is a very important tool in reducing fire hazards. State, Federal, and Local land management and fire departments will also use the same window of opportunity to conduct prescribed burns aimed at improving forest health and resilience on private and public lands.
