Spain is struggling to come to terms with devastating floods that have killed more than 200 people and left dozens missing this week.

While thousands of emergency service personnel and military personnel worked on search and rescue operations in flood-affected areas, local residents began clean-up efforts and assessed the level of damage caused.

More rain is expected over the weekend and a rain warning is in place along the southwestern coastline of Huelva, where residents are told to stay home.

Before and after images show the extent of damage caused by flash flooding and torrential rain as it swept away buildings, piled debris on streets and railways, and destroyed bridges.

In Valencia, the region most affected by the attack, cars were dragged into the streets, train tracks and tunnels.

Most of the dead were on the roads and in many cases returning from work during flash floods.

The tunnel above, which connects the municipalities of Benetusser and Alfafar in Valencia, was blocked by a large number of cars swept away by the water.

Parts of Valencia, the country’s third-largest city, received the equivalent of a year’s rainfall in just eight hours on Wednesday.

Rail services between Madrid and Valencia were suspended while the tracks were rebuilt, while dozens of meters of railway track were damaged or completely destroyed.

Some streets and residential areas were devastated by flash floods, such as in Letur in the southwest of Valencia. The entire street is covered with mud, rocks and rubble.
