HC Approves Further Investigation in Jubilee Hills Accident Case

HC Approves Further Investigation in Jubilee Hills Accident Case

hyderabad: The Telangana High Court upheld the court’s order ordering the Hyderabad police to further investigate the Jubilee Hills accident case in February 2022.

Raheel Aamir, son of former Bodhan MLA Shakeel Aamir, was reportedly involved in the incident that claimed the life of two-month-old boy Ranveer, whose mother Kajol was hit by a speeding vehicle.

When police received clues about Raheel’s involvement, they asked the court earlier this year to allow them to launch further investigations. The court gave permission on March 19.

Objecting to the same, Raheel approached the Supreme Court, arguing that once the charge sheet is filed in a case, further investigation cannot be allowed. His lawyer argued that the trial court’s order amounted to violation of civil principle under Section 173(8) of the CrPC and that the trial court had erred in directing the prosecution to proceed with further investigation.

Government lawyer Mahesh Raje argued that the 2022 inquiry was not conducted properly and there were many glitches in the process. Therefore, the ACP of Jubilee Hills had directed an investigator to undertake the investigation.

After hearing the arguments, Justice K. Sujana stated that Section 173(8) of the CrPC provides that filing of a criminal complaint does not prevent the police from carrying out further investigation. Therefore, the court was of the firm opinion that there was no illegality or irregularity in the decision dated 19.03.2024, which allowed the prosecution to continue further investigation.
