Hiring Dana Holgorsen could be key to keeping Dylan Raiola at Nebraska

Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule surprised a lot of people when he hired Dana Holgorsen to join the offensive staff in an undisclosed assignment, but that wasn’t the end of the story. It was announced earlier this week that Holgorsen will be the Huskers’ new offensive coordinator, replacing Marcus Satterfield.

It was a surprising development, but it brought great excitement to Nebraska’s fan base. The Huskers’ offense has great potential and can be taken to new heights with a coach like Holgorsen and his vast experience. However, there may be other reasons for this move other than offensive struggles.

Nebraska analyst Robin Washut shared some information On why Rhule might have moved to hire Holgorsen. He suggested keeping freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola happy was one reason why a move needed to be made.

“If Matt Rhule hadn’t made a move, the odds of Dylan Raiola not being here next season would have increased dramatically,” Washut said. “So I think they need to do something. Bring in a coach.” “Dana Holgorsen’s background, his offensive background, the number of quarterbacks he’s developed and taken to the next level suddenly becomes a much more attractive sales pitch for Dylan to step up to here.”

Washut said other teams will try to recruit Raiola as a tight end and try to get him to leave Nebraska. He also claimed that offers to Raiola from other teams have already started.

“I can guarantee you with 100% certainty that he and his camp have been receiving tampering phone calls,” Washut said. “People are coming to see if he wants to explore his options. I don’t know if they made this move just to appease Dylan, but maximizing Dylan Raiola is at the forefront of Matt Rhule deciding now is the time to do something.”

In this era of college football, it’s harder than ever to keep a roster full of talented players together. A quarterback like Raiola is a prime target for other programs to be poached from a struggling team like Nebraska.

Rhule made a quick move when he signed Holgorsen, but it looks like there may be more reasons for this than just offensive difficulties. Keeping the star freshman quarterback happy is the top priority.
