Cowboys’ Ezekiel Elliott Inactive Through Week 9, Won’t Travel ‘For Disciplinary Reasons’

Dallas Cowboys Running back Ezekiel Elliott will not play in the club’s Week 9 game. Atlanta Falcons According to multiple reports, he will not be traveling with the team to Georgia for “disciplinary reasons”. ESPN’s Todd Archer first to report news.

Elliott, 29, returned to the team that drafted him on May 1 on a one-year contract. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told the media shortly before the signing was announced that he believed in Elliott. There may still be a starting halfback in the NFL.

But it hasn’t quite come to fruition in Dallas this season. Listed as the second running back on the depth chart, Elliott teamed up with running back Rico Dowdle, who led the team in carries, rushing yards and yards per carry. The Dallas offense ranks last in the NFL in rushing yards per game at 74.1.

Elliott, meanwhile, saw his snap count percentage drop from 51 percent in Week 1 to 18 percent in Week 4, but his playing time has since returned to normal.

In early October, Elliott was asked about his role in the offense and reportedly “surprised” by its use– a characterization Jones disagreed..

It’s unclear whether Elliott’s potential dissatisfaction with his role was any factor in the first healthy scratch in the offseason finale of his nine-year career.

The Cowboys (3-4) look to end their two-game road losing streak against the Falcons.
