Woman fended off man with dog bullet

The man grabbed the woman, but she called out and waved her dog at him, causing him to run away.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is investigating the possibility that this attack is linked to an attack in Drumahoe on Friday.

After the attack on Saturday, police searched the area, but the man had left the area.

The suspect is believed to be heading in the direction of Corrody Road.

He is described as a white man in his 20s, approximately 1.83 m (5 ft 11 in) tall, of slim build, and wearing all black clothing.

The attacker reportedly pulled his hood tightly over his face.

Det Insp Ross Olphert said in a statement: “We understand there will be concern in the community about a second knifepoint attack on a woman in just two days, with this latest attack occurring during daylight hours.

“However, I can reassure residents that a focused, tactical patrol plan, including a highly visible police presence in key areas such as our local parks, is in place and police presence will increase across the city in the coming days.”

The PSNI said investigations were continuing to establish whether there was a link between the two attacks in County Londonderry.

Police said there was no connection between the two attacks over the weekend and earlier attacks in the city center last week.

Police appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

SDLP Foyle MLA Sinéad McLaughlin said recent attacks on women were a “huge concern” for the city.

“Every woman lives with the fear that something like this could happen to her, whether on our night or just living her own life,” she said.

“This is a fact that has been accepted and tolerated in our society for a very long time, we have a serious problem here and we need to deal with it.

“Mothers have to warn their daughters to be careful when they’re out and about, and this shouldn’t be happening.”

The Foyle MLA said his thoughts were with everyone affected by recent events and he planned to raise the issue in parliament on Monday.
