2 people seriously injured in an accident involving 3 vehicles were arrested

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Metro Nashville Police Department is investigating after a woman suffered life-threatening injuries in a three-vehicle crash.

According to police, the crash happened Sunday morning near the Bell Road exit of Interstate 24.

Police have issued an arrest warrant for Yimer Veleno, 45, on charges of reckless aggravated assault, assault on a vehicle, open container violation and no insurance.

Veleno’s front-seat passenger, whose name has not been confirmed, was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Police said Veleno and the driver of the white-panel van were driving aggressively and trying to run each other off the road just after 2 a.m.

As the two vehicles approached the Bell Road exit, the Honda crashed into the rear of the van and the side of a Mazda SUV.

Police said the van took off when Velena and the driver of the Mazda stopped on the exit ramp.

Police said the driver of the Mazda, Nilubon Wiphawachart, 25, was impaired driving and was arrested for driving under the influence.

“Officers are appealing for the public’s help in locating the van. Police said there was damage to the rear end, including broken rear windows. “Anyone with information regarding this matter and/or the driver is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.”
