Senator Manchin announces more than  million for BIP Railroad

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin announced over $6 million for rail in the Central Ohio Valley.

On Thursday, Senator Manchin announced that the Department of Transportation has received $29,708,000 from the Federal Railroad Administration for two rail infrastructure projects in W.Va.

One of these is the Belpre Industrial Parkersburg Railroad.

“I am pleased that the Department of Transportation has awarded more than $29.7 million to improve service, safety and efficiency along the Winchester & Western and Belpre Industrial Parkersburg rail lines,” said Senator Manchin.. “The robust funding announced yesterday is a major investment to further connect West Virginia communities, and I am confident it will bring more visitors to our great state and spur significant economic development. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for resources that strengthen and improve transportation infrastructure across the Mountain State.” I will continue.”

Belpre Industrial Railway was awarded $6,912,000 for the BIP Rail Link Improvement Project.

This project will complete final design and construction activities to repair two bridges over the Belpre Industrial Parkersburg BIP Railroad in Ohio and W.Va.

“Repairing these iconic structures on the Ohio River will preserve the rail connections of West Virginia and Ohio industries for the next generation and beyond,” said BIP co-owner Casey Cathcart. “You. “Manchin has been a great advocate for rail transit in West Virginia, and we appreciate all of his efforts.”

The other railroad that received an award was Winchester & Western Railroad Acquisition. They were awarded $22,796,000 for the Panhandle Rail Industrial Development Expansion Project.

This project will support final design and construction activities to rehabilitate portions of the WWRR mainline in WVa and Maryland to eliminate all remaining legacy sickle and legacy connecting structures.
