SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — A Chatham County jury found a man guilty of stabbing a man to death in 2022.

On November 1, 2024, Kenneth Paul Mayes Jr., 42, of Savannah was convicted of three counts of involuntary manslaughter, one count of aggravated assault, one count of aggravated battery, and two counts of possession of a knife. commission of a crime. Mayes was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Mayes fatally stabbed James Walter Miller on May 17, 2022. The Chatham County District Attorney’s Office said the incident began with a dispute between Mayes and Miller earlier in the day.

The dispute was initially resolved by Mayers leaving the house, but after a while Mayes returned. Miller was asleep in his bed.

Mayes then attacked Miller with a knife and killed him.

The lead prosecutors were Assistant District Attorneys Renorda Herring and Harrison Pratt. District Attorney Shalena Cook Jones said she appreciated the Deputy District Attorneys as well as Sgt. Travis Duncan of the Savannah Police Department.
