Name trends come and go, but like most things, as we get older some things change without us even realizing it. Case in point: old person names.

These are all pretty classic names, so how come we hear unusual names popping up everywhere?

There are two possible explanations. One is that these unusual names are gaining more traction online and in parenting groups, and suddenly everyone is raving about them.

Another explanation is that uncommon but rarer names fail to catch on because more traditional names retain their place in “baby name trends.”

Michael, for example, has been in the top ten names across all generations since Generation X.

What millennials need to remember is that generational trends are cyclical and what is old can become new again very quickly. All millennials have to do is wait. When Alpha Gen begins parenting their own children, they’ll be equally shocked to see Olivia and Liam take the former title.
