Delhi High Court rejects Khalid Saifi’s plea against attempt to murder charge in Delhi Riots case

A sessions court in Delhi on January 19 framed charges attempted murder and mutiny against former Congress councilor Ishrat Jahan, Khalid Saifi and eleven others.

However, the sessions court acquitted the defendants of attempted crime and illegal use of firearms.

Referring to the charge of criminal conspiracy, the sessions judge concluded that the charge against the defendant was “devoid of any justification”.

He had said that the same was a “figment of imagination” of the investigating officer and said the idea might have been taken from another case.

However, the judge found that: at first glance, The defendants were part of a “riotous armed gang” who “gathered and refused to comply with police instructions” to disperse, throwing stones and attacking police officers.
