Worcester, MA polls heavy on Election Day 2024

WORCESTER — The sanctity of democracy, the future of the country, the chance to have our first female president, fulfilling one’s civic duty, and setting a good example for their children, grandchildren and future generations were some of the reasons people put forward for this choice. Voting on Election Day.

Voters cast ballots in large groups across Central Massachusetts for the historic presidential election.

Robert P. Spellane, a former state representative from Worcester, is at 215 Mountain St., where there are two polling places. As the director of the polling station at Salem Covenant Church on East, he liked what he saw.

“The turnout was phenomenal and lively,” Spellane said. “There was an intense participation, the citizens were very excited.”

Spellane said he saw more than a dozen would-be voters come forward and have their names dropped from the voter rolls, but insisted it wouldn’t be a problem.

“A reminder to folks: When they get the Census in the mail from City Hall, they should take a few minutes to fill it out and send it back, and they’ll spend a little less time voting in the election,” he said.

“This is a very easy solution,” Spellane continued. “Actually, after we see their IDs, we activate them here, verify their addresses and enter them into the system.”

Matt Lyttle said he was motivated to protect the sanctity of democracy.

“Democracy is important,” Lyttle said. “It is important to maintain democracy”

As for the qualities he looks for in our next president, Lyttle said: “Leadership, integrity and ethics.”

Noel Stephen said he was excited to have the chance to elect a female president for the first time.

“I think Kamala Harris can do a better job than Trump,” Stephen said. “I really hope to have our first female president, but also overall, Kamala Harris has a lot of experience to bring to the White House.”

Stephen said voting questions are important, as are the presidential race.

“I did a lot of research and was going back and forth on a lot of it,” he said. “I think the last questions about tips for servers are important because I have a lot of friends in the industry.”

Ultimately, he said, he voted no on Question 5.

As for the qualities he’s looking for in our next president, Stephen said “someone who is responsible and can actually get the job done” and “someone who looks out for everyone.”

She also said “women’s rights” were a strong factor in her decision.

Bob Gallagher said he came to vote because it was his civic duty and that he wanted to set an example for his teenage grandson, who he brought to the polls.

Gallagher said he was most interested in the voting questions.

“Massachusetts will vote for whoever is named Kamala. “That’s the way it’s going to go,” Gallagher said. “It’s the more important local things, ballot initiatives and things like that.”

Carol Bloom and her adult son Eric gathered to vote.

“We always vote for the president,” Eric Bloom said.

“I vote every election,” Carol Bloom added. “As a citizen, it is my right to vote and I take it seriously.”

Both said they were very interested in the presidential race, but added that they were equally interested in the contentious races for senators and representatives.

“I kept the booklet the government sent and read everything,” Carol Bloom said. “So I think they were both informed. We really didn’t need to read all the disclosures (on the ballot) because we didn’t have that at home. Informed voters are the best voters.”

While Carol Bloom said “integrity” was the quality she looked for in a presidential candidate, her son said he was someone who “looks out for America.”

“I want a president who cares about the well-being of our citizens,” Carol Bloom said. “Unfortunately, we remained in the background.”

Festus Conneh said this is an important presidential election and he does not take lightly his civic duty to go out to vote.

“It’s important to come out to vote for our future and our future generation,” Conneh said. I hope the voters make the right decision for our country.

As for the qualities he’s looking for in our next president, Conneh said it’s someone who can help reduce inflation and ease rising daily expenses.

Lauren Stafford said she came to vote because it was her civic duty. And he is looking for a president with a “good heart and good morals.”

As for why it’s important to get out and vote, he said, “Everyone has a voice and every vote counts.”
