Join Rappler’s AI and election forum and voter empowerment workshops in Batangas

Lipa City in Batangas is the second stop of the #AmbagNatin roadshow running from November 28-29

MANILA, Philippines – As disinformation continues to spread across the provinces, how can ordinary citizens participate in ensuring their districts are well informed on issues related to the upcoming 2025 Philippine elections?

For the second stop of the #AmbagNatin roadshow series, Rappler heads to Lipa City, Batangas. 28 – 29 November Conducting electoral activities in partnership with the counter-disinformation coalition #FactsFirstPH and the Department of Internal Affairs and Local Government-Calabarzon through the Local Governance Resource Centre.

This is part of MovePH’s series of roadshows aimed at encouraging communities in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao to strengthen information integrity and constituency in their regions. MovePh is the civic engagement arm of Rappler.

The roadshow also aims to engage and train future Movers (Rappler civic engagement volunteers) to write community-driven election stories that will be amplified by Rappler.

Rappler’s roadshow series, focused on a call to action for the upcoming election, is themed as follows:#AmbagNatin: Defending the facts for an informed choice.” The series will have three stops: Iloilo City, Lipa City, and Iligan City, where public forums and hands-on workshops will be held, focusing on the 2025 elections, voter empowerment, and civic engagement.

The promotional tour will include a public forum about the importance of verified information and a vibrant information environment, especially during elections. During the public forum, participants will hear from Rappler journalists and local newsrooms about how factual integrity can affect election results. There will be a panel discussion about ways to work together to ensure voters are protected from AI-powered disinformation.

During the forum, attendees will also be able to interact with Rai, Rappler’s chatbot designed to convey journalist-reviewed information in a conversational format.

This public forum will be held on: November 28, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., in Lipa City, Batangas.

Become a Mover and attend our workshops on civic engagement

In addition to the public forum, the #AmbagNatin roadshow will offer specialized training in community-building journalism through a series of hands-on, interactive workshops for interested Movers or volunteers for Rappler.

In these workshops, 20 local community leaders, journalists and youth will participate in community dialogue on local issues and interactive learning sessions and activities. Specifically, these will run from 1pm to 5pm on November 28; and Nov. 29, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. During these sessions, participants will learn more about fact-checking, reporting on local issues, creating effective multimedia content, and using social media for civic engagement.

As part of the selection process for these workshops, interested participants must submit an election-related story from their district and cover community issues during the election season for Rappler. After the training, participants are expected to continue stories based on their own presentations with the support of Rappler.

A total of 20 local community leaders, journalists and youth will be selected in Batangas. The criteria are as follows:

  • At least 18 years old and living in Batangas province
  • Good writing and communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of short video production is preferred
  • Journalism or video production experience is a plus
  • I’m interested in doing community-oriented journalism
  • It should be a solid presentation of an election-related story from the region in which it is located (could be a text story or a multimedia application). Story submissions can include any of these: profiles of local candidates running in their city/county, stories about community issues that local candidates should address in their platforms, comparisons of the platforms of key candidates in their district, and others.
  • Must be willing to help Rappler tell community stories during election season. These community stories may be similar to those mentioned above.
  • You are also required to attend the public forum held in the morning session on November 28.

Food and snacks will be provided to those selected for the workshop.
