Woodbridge man arrested for assaulting police officer and trying to escape during arrest

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A 55-year-old man was arrested Wednesday evening for allegedly assaulting a law enforcement officer and trying to flee as officers tried to detain him on an active warrant, police said.

The incident occurred around 8:39 p.m. on Nov. 6 at the intersection of Jeffries Road and Bell Air Road in Woodbridge. According to police, officers located Vincent Edward Dillard, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant, and attempted to arrest him. During the arrest, Dillard reportedly resisted and pushed one of the officers, then fled on foot.

After a brief foot pursuit, officers were able to take Dillard into custody without further incident. No injuries were reported.

Dillard, of no fixed address, was charged with assault and battery on a law enforcement officer and obstruction of justice. He is being held without bail and is awaiting a court date.
