Three people were killed and three others were injured Friday when a suspect opened fire at a central Pennsylvania apartment and then led police on a 60-mile, high-speed chase through two counties that ended in an exchange of gunfire with state troopers, police said. .

Soldiers shot and killed 22-year-old Ricky Shannon after Lt. Col. George Bivens opened fire on them from his pickup truck. Pennsylvania State Police said at a news conference. He said troopers later found a 19-year-old woman who had also been fatally shot.

Previously, Shannon had gone to an apartment in Mount Joy. lancaster Police said County shot four of the woman’s family members, killing one, before leaving with the 19-year-old.

It is not yet clear when and by whom the 19-year-old boy in the truck was shot. Police said this was part of the investigation. Bivens said he may have been shot at home.

Shannon had obtained a protection from harassment order against the woman on Tuesday, and he had obtained a protection from harassment order against her on Thursday. Shannon was ordered around 1 a.m. Friday, then drove more than 150 miles (241 kilometers) from her home in Altoona to her home in Mount Joy.

Bivens said Shannon opened fire as soon as he arrived at the house.

“Obviously there was some sort of domestic dispute between the two. The conflict occurred as soon as we arrived. It seems like there was probably some thought put into it and everything happened very quickly after he came in,” Bivens said.
