Lil Durk accusations: Chicago rapper charged with misdemeanor indictment for alleged murder-for-hire plot in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (Wales) — Grammy-winning Chicago rapper Lil Durk has been charged in a federal grand jury indictment alleging he conspired with others to kill a rival rapper, the Department of Justice announced Friday.

Durk Banks, aka Lil Durk, 32, was charged with conspiracy; use of interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death; using, carrying and discharging firearms and machine guns; and possession of such firearms in furtherance of a crime of violence resulting in death.

Indictment Added two serious charges against banks.

The four-count indictment filed late Thursday adds Banks as the lead defendant to a previous indictment filed on Oct. 17 and charges other defendants in connection with the August 2022 slaying of a rival rapper’s relative near the Beverly Center mall in Los Angeles. Angeles.

Kavon London Grant, 28, aka “Cuz” and “Vonnie,” of Atlanta; Deandre Dontrell Wilson, 33, aka “DeDe,” of Chicago; Keith Jones, 33, aka “Flacka,” of Gary, Indiana; David Brian Lindsey, 33, aka “Browneyez”, of Addison, Illinois; and Asa Houston, also known as “Boogie,” 36, of Chicago, were also charged.

The Justice Department said Banks was arrested on Oct. 17 near Miami International Airport after law enforcement learned he had booked multiple international flights for himself. A federal magistrate judge in Miami ordered him held without bail until he can be transferred to Los Angeles for trial.

All six defendants who have not yet entered a plea are expected to go on trial in the United States District Court in downtown Los Angeles in the coming weeks.

According to the superseding indictment, Banks founded an organization called Only the Family (OTF) in 2010; this organization produced and sold, among other things, hip-hop music, mostly from artists in the Chicago area. The Justice Department said the OTF also acted as an association of individuals involved in violence, including murder and assault, at Banks’ direction and maintained their status with the OTF.

Banks feuded with a victim identified in court documents as “TB.” The feud stemmed from November 6, 2020, when a TB associate shot and killed an OTF rapper named Dayvon Bennett, also known as “King Von.” The Justice Department said Bennett and Banks were close friends.

In response to Bennett’s murder, Banks allegedly placed a bounty on TB’s life.

The Department of Justice said that on Aug. 19, 2022, several OTF members and their associates drove two vehicles and worked together for hours to track, pursue and attempt to kill TB, culminating in a shooting at a gas station near the Beverly Center mall. Authorities said the co-conspirators used multiple weapons, including a machine gun, and fired at least 18 shots into TB’s vehicle, striking and killing one victim identified in court documents as “SR,” a family member of TB.

The Department of Justice alleged that the Banks ordered the killing of TB and that the hitmen used money obtained from the Banks and OTF-related financing to carry out the attack. The Justice Department said bank and flight records show that an OTF member and a close associate of Banks coordinated and paid for the five conspirators’ travel from Chicago to California the day before the murder.

Around the time the one-way flights were purchased, Banks told the OTF employee who booked the flights: “Do not book flights under any name that has nothing to do with me.”

The same day the hitmen left Chicago for California, Banks also flew to California on a private jet with Grant. Later that same day, Grant allegedly purchased ski masks for the hitmen to use to commit the murder and paid for the other conspirators’ hotel rooms using a credit card in Banks’ name.

The other five defendants remain in federal custody in Illinois following their initial trial in Chicago. They remain indicted on a conspiracy charge; one count of use of interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death; and using, carrying, discharging, and possessing firearms and machine guns in furtherance of a crime of violence resulting in death. Jones will also face a charge of possession of a machine gun.

If convicted, all defendants face a statutory maximum sentence of life in federal prison, the Justice Department said.

The FBI and Los Angeles Police Department are investigating the incident.

Banks are also accused in the case In the gang-related shooting that killed Chicago rapper FBG Duck.
