Ariana Grande returned to host Saturday Night Live (SNL) in October; Here, not only his monologue but also his comedy sketch called Charades With Mom attracted great attention. In the sketch, Ariana portrayed a competitive but tough woman. She recently shared that the idea for the sketch was inspired by her mother, Joan Grande, who was extremely competitive in real life and couldn’t afford to lose a match. The Wicked star explained that while her family was playing charades over Labor Day weekend, the game started off smoothly, but turned intense when her sister-in-law Hale Grande’s brother got too competitive and made fun of Ariana’s mother, leading to a hilarious and unexpected reaction. That became the concept of the SNL sketch.

Appearing on iHeartRadio’s Las Culturistas podcast, the Thank U, Next singer explained: “It was so much fun, it was sweet, and my mom was the most generous, kindest giving person in the entire world. He’s just the best, but he’s competitive and extremely protective of his kids. Even if we play charades or something, you don’t make a mess. We were playing charades and my brother-in-law’s brother said, ‘Haha, we’re winning’ and he said, ‘Wow we’re ahead, step back, we’re ahead’ and my mom was like, ‘Tiny D*** syndrome’ and I was like, ‘Mom, this isn’t funny, this is intense and I thought, ‘it’s harmful.’

“We were all laughing and of course she laughed too, but she said, ‘Well, that’s a sign of it,’ and I said, ‘Mom, that’s crazy,’ and then I started doing that a little bit. Hail’s other brother and he was like crying and I was like Joan, please we have to do something about this, this is so stupid,” Ariana Grande added.

The singer also explained that while her family is dead serious when it comes to games, she is different. Unlike her mother, brother Frankie, and brother-in-law Hale, Ariana just wants to have fun. He doesn’t care about winning and is happy to just play, even though he doesn’t know all the rules. According to Ariana, Hale is very passionate about games and knows games that no one else may have heard of. Frankie, on the other hand, hates losing and his mother is in the same situation.

Ariana Grande will star alongside Cynthia Erivo in Wicked, which is scheduled to be released on November 22.
