Albany Police arrested in connection with assault, police officer injured in process

Albany Police say they arrested 41-year-old James Farmer of Albany and charged him in connection with an assault that occurred Friday afternoon.

The attack occurred around 16.30 around Jay Street and Quail Street.

Officers said they observed a fight between Farmer and another male, and Farmer hit the male in the head with a glass bottle and punched him in the back of the head multiple times. Police said the victim and Farmer knew each other.

The 50-year-old male victim is said to have pain and swelling in the back of his head.

Police said when officers attempted to intervene and apprehend Farmer, Farmer ignored their commands.

Albany Police added that although Farmer actively resisted arrest during the incident, it resulted in an officer suffering a hand injury.

After a short pursuit, the teams arrested Çiftçi and detained him.

Police said Çiftçi was charged with the following crimes:

  • second degree assault
  • Second degree obstruction of state administration
  • Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon
  • erratic behavior
  • resisting arrest

Farmer was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court Saturday morning and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
