Manchester United fans back Bendito Mantato to shine under Ruben Amorim’s leadership

Bendito Mantato may not be the most well-known member of Manchester United’s 18-man squad; Look at Harry Amass, Ethan Wheatley and Jack Fletcher. Chido Obi-Martin scored again in Saturday’s win over Everton – but he may be one of the biggest beneficiaries of Ruben Amorim’s arrival.

Like Quenda, Mantato excels at maintaining width, pushing towards the touchline and pushing forward with his lively, jingling runs.

Mantato was compared to Arsenal’s superstar Bukayo Saka For some reason, it is equally adept at moving downwards from the outside while drifting towards the centre.

Gary Neville feels Man United has a squad well suited to Ruben Amorim’s system Especially in defense areas.

The three-man backline of Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez looks pretty solid on paper.

Only time will tell whether Diogo Dalot or Noussair Mazraoui has the explosiveness to fill this right wing-back role. Perhaps the long-term solution to a potentially problematic situation may lie not in Manchester United’s first-team squad, but in its extremely talented Under-18 squad.

Mantato is of course only 16 years old. Edwin van der Sar was only a few months old when he rejected Nicolas Anelka on a rainy night in Moscow.

But Quenda is only nine months older than the youngster, and Amorim clearly has little reservations about entrusting such an important role to someone so young if he thinks he’s ready. And it could just be that Amorim has a role that would suit Mantato perfectly at Manchester United.

Watching Mantato put Everton on a miserable run before getting his name on the scoresheet with a left-footed strike in stoppage time, there was no shortage of Man United fans predicting a bright future for Bendito Mantato under Ruben Amorim.

‘I’m rooting for Mantato to make the jump. I really, really like this kid. “(Will be successful) especially under Amorim,” one wrote to X, as Adam Lawrence’s side maintained their 100 per cent record in the Under-18 Premier League.

‘Mantato could be our own Quenda in RWB under Amorim…’ agrees another.

‘There is no one better suited to Amorim in the whole club than Bendito Mantato – in both wing back spots,’ says one supporter, while another believes ‘Bendito Mantato will one day have RWB under Amorim.

‘He started as a left-back but was so exciting in attack that he moved to the right wing (against Everton).’

We’ve already had Fergie’s Fledgings, while Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho will always be Ten Hag’s Tots.

So could Bendito Mantato be the first of the Amorim Graduates?
