Filippo describes what his sister was like in her childhood: “She was like an erupting volcano, she saw the house as a certain type of discipline, my mother was very demanding.” He was later placed in foster care, from which he escaped at least 40 times. Francesca explains: “My brother had a different relationship with my mother because he had a different personality than mine. We had completely different relationships. Today, I have a relationship with my mother, but it cannot be described as a mother-daughter relationship; we are two women. I have a good relationship and when we have a woman-woman relationship, we understand each other.” Filippo, who has been living with his mother for longer, gets along very well with her.

Relationship with Father

Filippo no longer has any relationship with his father, Cristiano De André. “You reach a certain point and then everything collapses again, that’s always the case with him. I shut myself down to protect myself. “I forgive everything, but it’s no use if the situation continues like this.”

Francesca agrees: «If a family is harmful, it is better to get rid of it. I forgave my mother, but decided to eliminate my father because he was harmful; He is a person who doesn’t care and has serious human problems. I don’t even know if he can really be my father; Aesthetically you see we are related, but humanly it has nothing to do with me. He only did things that caused me problems. I live better without him. I stopped insisting on people in general. The only person I want to deal with every day is my brother.”

Giorgio’s Violence

Francesca’s former partner (Giorgio Tambellini) beat her and Francesca was found guilty of violence. “That evening he overdid it with alcohol, I was on the sofa, dragged by my hair, kicked, punched and thought I wasn’t going to make it before I passed out. I wouldn’t be here talking to you if I didn’t have the composure to address certain areas,” he recalls to Toffanin.

So how is Francesca De André today? «I am not a determined woman, but awareness made me aware of my weaknesses. Of course, when I wake up today, I can look at myself in the mirror and be proud of the person I am. He was convicted but I did not receive compensation, he never understood what he did. His family did nothing, instead paying for his lawyers. I understand why people are afraid to report, I understand them, but they have to do it all the time. Fortunately, my brother is in my life.”
