New general manager aims to revitalize Eastdale Shopping Center

MONTGOMERY, Ala.(WSFA) – A new manager means new ideas for Montgomery’s only hub of activity.

Eastdale Mall General Manager Brian Smith said he wants the mall to bring a new and unique experience to shoppers with new businesses and restaurants due to the closure of businesses such as home goods store At Home.

Smith’s vision is to bring Eastdale back to its glory days when it was one of Montgomery’s top attractions, but he said that starts with changing the public’s perspective.

“When you say Eastdale Mall to different people, they’ll say ‘oh, there’s violence there,’ but there’s violence everywhere,” Smith said.

Smith began imposing sanctions two months after starting work strict policies Bags, guns and unsupervised minors to prevent violence.

Additionally, the general manager says he wants to increase community involvement by rewarding students who do well in school.

Smith said rebranding Eastdale Mall will present challenges, but he believes it can be done successfully.
