Jalen Warley to visit three schools after entering transfer portal

Tony Bennett suddenly announced his retirementWith 20 days until the start of the college basketball season, fans were wondering if the Virginia basketball program would lose anyone to the transfer portal.

It took about two weeks, but eventually word spread that 6-foot-6 guard Jalen Warley had joined the team. State of Florida I was planning to do the following through the portal: enter the portal once again.

Due to timing, Warley will redshirt this season while remaining a student at Virginia, opting instead to seek a new school for his final season of eligibility in 2025-26.

Warley appeared in 96 games, made 58 starts, and averaged 23.8 minutes per game in three seasons with the Seminoles. In the 2023-24 season, he averaged 7.5 points, 2.8 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.3 steals as a junior.

Warley explained. CBS’s Jon Rothstein There are three programs he plans to visit, all of which make perfect sense for him to be seen as an option at the far end in the 2025-26 season.

First up is Gonzaga, which will lose its entire backcourt when he graduates at the end of this season. Ryan Nembhard, Nolan Hickman, Khalif Battle, Michael Ajayi and Ben Gregg are all out of eligibility, leaving Mark Few’s team in 2025-26 with a lot of forwards highlighted by junior Dusty Stromer, incoming freshman Davis Fogle and junior Emmanuel Innocenti. An unproven squad remains. He is not in the rotation this year.

The addition of Warley would give Few a strong defensive presence and proficiency he can rely on, and given Gonzaga’s track record of success in signings, this is a program everyone should consider when looking for a final place to play.

Next up is Iowa State, another team full of veterans that will undergo a major roster overhaul in 2025-26. Guards Keshon Gilbert and Curtis Jones will be out after this season, and it’s possible Tamin Lipsey, Milan Momcilovic and veteran Nate Heise could also be out.

TJ Otzelberger’s club is tenacious and physical on the defensive end; This is a perfect fit for Warley’s skill set in his senior season.

Last but not least is Buzz Williams’. Texas A&M This roster will see star guard Wade Taylor IV depart after this year, along with star forward Henry Coleman III, SMU transfer Zhuric Phelps and key depth players Manny Obaseki and Hayden Hefner.

The Aggies could use his size and length to open up Warley on the offensive side of the ball in the SEC.

It’s unclear if Warley is considering another school for his senior season, but any of these three programs make sense for the 6’6 guard to finish his successful college career.
